
Thomas William Selleck is an American actor from the United States. His most recognizable role was that of Thomas Magnum, a private investigator in Magnum, P.I. (1980-1988), for whom he was nominated five times for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead actor in an Drama Series. He won the award in 1985. In the TV series Blue Bloods, Selleck has played Frank Reagan, New York City Police Commissioner. In nine television movies that are based on the Robert B. Parker novels and plays, he was Jesse Stone, a troubled small-town police chiefwho began his career in 2005. Selleck also starred in Three Men and a Baby (1987), and Three Men and a Little Lady(1990). Since Magnum, P.I., the actor has appeared in more than 50 roles on TV as well as in film, such as the films Quigley Down Under, Mr. Lassiter and baseball. He appeared in recurring television characters as Monica Geller's love-interest Dr. Richard Burke on Friends and as Lance White, the likeable and charming co-star on The Rockford Files, and as casino owner A.J. Cooper in Las Vegas. Cooper also had a leading role in the television western film The Sacketts, based on two of Louis L'Amour's books.Selleck is a California Army National Guard veteran, a spokesman for the National Rifle Association (NRA) and endorser of advertisements for National Review magazine, and co-founder of the Character Counts! organization.
